Who are we?

We are the Embodied Music Lab - a professional development, education, and consulting company based in Ann Arbor, MI. We strive to create knowledge and curate transparent information about the singing voice for:

  • Singers across genres and styles

  • Voice teachers and coaches

  • Choral conductors

  • Speech language pathologists

  • Singing voice specialists

  • Vocologists

  • Voice pedagogy classroom teachers

  • Voice researchers

We believe that practicing curiosity with a flexible mindset will allow you gain a better understanding of the singing voice, and help you to best serve your students and clients. We offer transformational, rather than transactional experiences.

Make it stand out.

  • “It’s hard to describe the depth of the impact Ian Howell has had on my career trajectory and my life. Dr. Howell is a supremely brilliant, kind, and devoted mentor whose belief and investment in me as a young pedagogue and performer opened my mind and my ears in incredible ways. If you’re lucky enough to have him in your life, he will challenge you, inspire you, and guide you beyond the boundaries of what you think is possible. He is a treasure, and I would not be who I am without him.

Dr. Emily Siar, Assistant Professor of Voice Boston Conservatory at Berklee, 2024 NATSAA Winner
